Windows Installation - Write-Back Server

Summary

Write-Back installer is available at Resources of Write-Back Server. It is available as an application .exe that you can execute.

Step 1: Run the Installer

Right-click Write-Back-64bit-X_X_X.exe and choose to run as administrator. This will open a Welcome Page, click next to continue. If a Windows Defender page shows up please ensure you have downloaded the Write-Back extension from Xpand IT site and allow the program to run.

First time installing

When you are using the installer for the first time the Windows will prompt a warning claiming that the publisher is not of a trusted source. This is due to our Write-Back extension is not signed digitally by Microsoft.


To be able to proceed with the installation you need to:

  • Click Run Anyway:

After this, the installation will proceed as normal, follow the steps below!


Note: If the "Run Anyway" button does not appear, it may be due to Microsoft Smartscreen. To bypass this issue, you have to right-click on the executable file that you just downloaded, go to properties, and check the unlock checkbox, as you can see in the image below. After that, you just need to click apply.
You should be able to run the executable file after this change.

Step 2: Start installation

Click Next

Step 3: Agree with the terms of service

Read and accept the EULA and Privacy Policy.

Check the box if you agree and click next.

Step 4: Choose the installation path

This is the directory where Write-Back will be installed. 

At the end click next.

Step 5: Decide if you want the samples to be installed

By installing Write-Back samples at the end of the configuration process you get access to a sample Workbook that you can use as an example. 

At the end click Next.

Step 6: Decide if you want to configure a local user authentication for Write-Back Manager

The default authentication on Write-Back Manager which is used by Administrators for configuration purposes is based on the operative system (OS) user. You should keep it that way unless you have a custom machine policy where this is not possible to login on the OS.

By enabling local user authentication, you will be able to define on the next screen specific credentials to login on Write-Back Manager.

At the end click Next.

Step 7: Configure Local User Authentication

If you enabled the configuration of local user authentication in Step 6, this screen will appear in order to type the name and password you want as credentials for authentication in the Write-Back Manager.

At the end click Next.

Step 8: Copy files process

When finished click Next

Step 9: Component Installation

Progress will be displayed as new lines with the component being installed.

Please bear in mind some steps can take some time to execute.

At the end click Next.

Step 10: Write-Back successfully installed

A browser window is open to carrying on the configuration on Write-Back Manager.

If the browser doesn't open please click on the link provided.

Finish the installer

Press Next and then Done to finish the installer.

Step 11: Use Write-Back Manager to finish Setup

To finish the process you now have to setup Write-Back using Write-Back manager. Go to Setup & Manage with Write-Back Manager
